Meet Mimi: A Scientist with a Penchant for Paper and Postage
At Around the World in 80 Cards, we celebrate the storytellers behind the stamps—and Mimi is one of our most inspiring voices. Originally from Canada and now living in Belgium, Mimi is a research and development scientist by day and a passionate cardmaker by night. But her story is anything but ordinary.
Each year, Mimi embarks on a heartfelt mission: she handmakes and handwrites every single one of her Christmas cards. It’s a labor of love that takes her three months to complete, but for Mimi, it’s worth every second. “There’s something magical about handwriting,” she says. “It’s a lost art that brings people joy in a way digital messages never can.”
Her cards are more than just festive greetings—they’re tiny works of art, each infused with care, creativity, and a personal touch. And they travel far and wide, just like Mimi herself.
With over 50 countries stamped in her passport, Mimi is a true global citizen. She thrives on exploring new cultures, learning local customs, and connecting with people from all walks of life. Her travels fuel her creativity and give her a deep appreciation for the diverse ways people celebrate, communicate, and connect.
Whether she’s hiking up to Machu Picchu, sipping tea in Kyoto, or crafting cards in her cozy Belgian home, Mimi brings a sense of wonder and warmth to everything she does. Her stories remind us that the world is full of beauty—and that sometimes, the simplest gestures, like a handwritten card, can make the biggest impact.
Mimi is thrilled to be part of the Around the World in 80 Cards community and can’t wait to share her stories, inspirations, and card-making adventures with you. “I’m so excited to connect with others who love travel and handwritten joy as much as I do,” she says. “There’s so much beauty in the little things, and I can’t wait to explore that together.”
Stay tuned for more of Mimi’s adventures and creative tales. She has many stories to tell, and we’re honored to help her share them with you.
